Blog

These aren't going to be regular blog entries - I want this website to be primarily on the food/cooking side of things - but every now and again I might just post about something important, or entertaining, or just to let you know what I'm doing outside of the kitchen :o)

Please click this link and send me your comments.
I'd love to hear from you :o)

Phew, what a hectic summer this has been!!
It seems as if we only need to blink and the months are flying by, and before we know it we'll be back in our winter coats digging the truck out of the snow - brrrrrr - I don't even want to think about it yet :o)
We had a wonderful treat this summer of having Dean's brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Jo, come for a visit at the beginning of this month.  I think by the end of the two weeks we were all completely exhausted after being out every day exploring different parts of the island - of course they have to come back again, because they didn't get to see even a fraction of it :o)  One day that was definitely on the top of the list those was the sea fishing / spa day in the second week.  Dean and Kev did the hard work of being out on a small boat for 4 hours catching our dinner, while Jo and I had an 'equally' hard day spent in the spa having massages and facials - we suffered through it :o)
We all had just enough energy to fillet the fish and throw it on the BBQ before collapsing on the porch with some beverages.  We can't wait for them to come back for a visit soon.

Well the last couple of days have been quite eventful, especially for Dean.  He had a little accident in work yesterday that resulted in this:

Ouch!!!
Needless to say he's in some pain so I'm playing nursemaid at the moment with the ice packs, T3's, the odd bottle of beer and letting him have the full use of the remote control :o)
We're waiting for his doctor to review the x-rays that he had this morning, but luckily it doesn't look at if anything is broken - just a very bad sprain that he has to keep elevated and strapped until his follow-up appointment next week.  It'll be nice to have him home, although the downside is that I can't get him up and down the ladders doing chores off his 'honey-do' list.... :o)

I'm back from my emergency trip to England - unfortunately my wonderful, talented, fabulous Dad passed away on January 30, 2011.  I know that I'm biased, but I can quite honestly say that he was THE most perfect Dad and I'm going to miss him terribly.  I love you Dad xxx

The 'powers that be' have been forecasting snow for a couple of days now, and yesterday it started a little bit which left us with about 1/2 inch by the time we went off to bed last night.  What a surprise this morning though when we woke up to 10 inches or more!!!!  A veritable winter wonderland outside.  Of course the cats took one look at the white stuff, gave us a look that said it was our fault, and pretty much stayed indoors all day!  Dean did manage to get the car out to get to work (yay for 4-wheel drive), but luckily we also have a very dear friend who has a back-hoe, and he came around this afternoon and dug out the driveway for us (yay for boys and their 'big' toys :o)

I don't think we'll be sunbathing on the deck today :o)

it looked so beautiful when the sun came out.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Today we started the new year doing something that we've wanted to do in the past but for various reasons never got to actually follow through with it.  We sat on the beach watching the first sunrise of the year....

It was very cold (minus 7 degrees), but with a couple of mugs of hot chocolate, and wrapped up warm in all our winter gear it was absolutely beautiful, and something that we will definitely be doing again - weather permitting of course.  I have to admit I thought there would be other people with the same idea, but apart from one guy with his camera who left before the sun actually got above the mainland mountains, we were the only people there, which was great - just us and mother nature....

Dean said I looked like a 'cone-head' in my hat, but I don't care - it kept me warm :o)

One of life's little pleasures......LEFTOVERS!!!!

mmmmmm.......a big bowl of leftover nacho meat mix from Christmas Eve (and boy, oh boy after a day or more of marinating those spices sure have a little kick to them :), and from Christmas dinner, fluffy roast potatoes and maple caramalised roasted parsnips and carrots......mmmmmmmm.
I think I like leftovers more than the main meals!!!! :o)
HAPPY BOXING DAY.

Happy Holidays to everyone - we're having a very quiet and a little subdued Christmas this year.  It's just going to be Dean, the cats and I (which was the plan all along), with the usual telephone calls back to England to say 'hi' to our families.  Unfortunately this year my Dad is in the hospital for Christmas so some of the 'holiday spirit' has dimmed just a little bit.  We've all decided though that we'll be lucky enough to have a second Christmas sometime in the new year once my Dad is back home again :o)
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas spent with the people that you love...

I can't believe that we're into the week run up to Christmas already!!!
It always seems to creep up on me, but when my birthday comes around I know that we're really close.  It was my birthday on Sunday (19th) and for a surprise my hubby took me away for the night to the Kingfisher Resort and Spa, where he had organised a couples spa treatment in their Pacific Mist Hydropath suite - it was amazing!!!!  It's a series of hot tubs, whirlpools, massage waterfalls, salt water baths and seaweed scrubs all in a place that looks like a hidden grotto.  Here are a couple of photos:

this was the first hot tub.

this was the salt water bath, which even had rainfall coming down (doesn't show up very well in the photo)

I thought that I was spoilt enough with the night away and the spa treatment, but then Dean surprised me even more by having very good friends of ours waiting in the restaurant for us to have dinner with - and they brought me balloons!!!!

I love balloons!!!! :o)

All in all, I had an absolutely wonderful birthday - thank you honey xxx

sooooo cute.  I'm debating getting a pressure sensor pad on the glass attached to a doorbell, for those times that I'm not near the door and can't see him.  Dean thinks it's a bad idea, because knowing Bear he'd get a real laugh at ringing the bell constantly and running away - the little monkey :o)
I've posted a short video of our 'training session' on the cats page here.
